Blue Dye, but for your Brain?

What You NEED to Know About Methylene Blue Before Trying It!

Alright, let’s talk about the blue liquid that’s got the internet losing its mind.

A few weeks ago, a certain presidential candidate was seen adding what looked like fish tank cleaner to his water. The internet freaked out.

Turns out, it wasn’t fish medicine (at least, not exactly). It was Methylene Blue—a compound biohackers have been using for years to boost brain function, mitochondrial energy, and even longevity.

But before you start chugging blue juice thinking it’ll turn you into a superhuman, let’s break this down. What is it? Who can actually benefit from it? And who should stay far away?

I’ve tried it myself, and I’ll tell you what I’ve noticed.

But first—let’s get into the science.

WHAT EVEN IS METHYLENE BLUE?

Methylene Blue started its career in the 1800s as… a textile dye. Yep, it was meant for coloring fabric. But scientists quickly realized it had medical uses, especially for treating malaria and later, brain-related conditions.

Today, it’s gaining traction in the biohacking world for its neuroprotective effects, energy-boosting potential, and even its ability to help with mood and focus.

Imagine this: Your brain is like a battery. If your battery is fully charged, you wake up feeling refreshed, you think clearly, and you have energy for your workouts, work, and life.

But if your battery is half-drained before the day even starts (which is the case for most people), you’re dealing with brain fog, low motivation, and that need for caffeine just to function.

Methylene Blue is like a portable charger for your brain. It works at the mitochondrial level to optimize energy production, making your cells more efficient.

So, who should actually consider trying it?

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM IT?

If you check any of these boxes, Methylene Blue might be worth looking into:

✔️ You struggle with brain fog or low mental energy
✔️ You’re looking to improve memory and focus
✔️ You deal with chronic fatigue and crash mid-day
✔️ You want long-term neuroprotection (especially as you age)
✔️ You’re interested in potential mood-boosting effects

Some studies suggest it can even help with depression and neuroinflammation, meaning it might be useful for people dealing with long-term stress or cognitive decline.

It’s not a magic pill—but it’s got some solid science behind it.

That said… this is not for everyone.

WHO SHOULD NOT TAKE IT?

I don’t care how many influencers are pushing it — if you fall into one of these categories, stay away:

❌ If you’re on SSRIs or MAOIs (antidepressants)—this can lead to serotonin syndrome, which is dangerous.

❌ If you have G6PD deficiency—this can be toxic to your red blood cells.

❌ If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding—just don’t risk it.

❌ If you tend to overdo supplements without researching dosages—this definitely isn’t something you should mess with blindly.

Dosage matters with this stuff. More is not better.

SIDE EFFECTS (AKA, WHY YOU MIGHT LOOK LIKE A SMURF)

First things first—your mouth and tongue will turn BLUE (for hours).

So if you’re taking this before a date or an important meeting, you will look like you just made out with a blue ballpoint pen.

Other potential side effects? Headaches, nausea, dizziness, or just feeling off if you take too much.

This is why I started small and paid attention to how my body reacted.

HOW I TAKE IT & WHAT I’VE NOTICED

I’ve been experimenting with low doses—around 4-8mg—and mostly using it when I need laser focus for deep work or filming days.

For me, the effects are subtle but real.

I feel a little sharper, my energy stays more stable, and I don’t get the usual afternoon brain fog.

One thing I’ve also been testing is combining it with red light therapy. There’s some interesting research showing that Methylene Blue acts as an electron donor at the mitochondrial level, and when paired with red light, it enhances energy production even more.

Now, is it life-changing? No. But is it an interesting tool for the right person? Absolutely.

So… SHOULD YOU TRY IT?

Look—Methylene Blue isn’t a magic bullet. It’s a tool.

If you’re dealing with brain fog, low energy, or cognitive decline, it might be worth researching and talking to your doctor about.

But if you’re just looking for a quick biohacking shortcut without fixing your diet, sleep, and exercise first—this isn’t going to save you.

My best advice?
✔️ Do your research before jumping in
✔️ Start LOW (seriously, don’t overdo it)
✔️ Pay attention to how your body reacts

And if you’re the type to hear about something online and immediately order a gallon of it off Amazon… maybe take a deep breath first.
