I Changed My Mind

and I think that should be absolutely OK.

Five months ago I swore I'd never even consider buying a Tesla…

This week I ordered a third (in 3 months). 😂

It's kind of ridiculous how quickly things can change when you're willing to actually experience something instead of just having an opinion about it.

After 20 years in the car business, I thought I understood Tesla (by understood, I mean completely hated). Then, long story short, I bought a Model Y, started using FSD every day, experienced their buying process from the customer side, and realized there were a lot of things I had completely wrong. So, naturally I ordered another one for my soon-to-be-driving teenage daughter… and

I've had a serious love hate relationship with that truck since it came out, but the timing finally made sense. I found the exact truck I wanted, got it before the $5,000 price increase, and somehow I'll have it about three weeks after ordering it.

I'm excited. I'm also very aware that five months ago David would be making fun of current David.

And that's probably my biggest thought from this week.

Don't be afraid to change your mind.

There's a difference between having convictions and being so committed to an opinion that you ignore new information.

I've been thinking about that with cars, health, business, parenting... really everything.

Experience something. Learn. Ask better questions. Then adjust when it makes sense.

I think that's a good way to live.

Speaking of doing things that don't make a ton of sense...

I ran my first 50K this week at Hell on Hogsback.

31 freaking miles (actually it was 32!)

And I have done ZERO marathon training this year.

The longest run I've done all year was actually the day BEFORE the 50K.

Four miles.

And somehow I chafed during those four miles. 😂

So naturally I woke up the next morning and ran over 31.

I definitely wouldn't recommend that as a training plan, but it proved something to me that I talk about all the time.

Train to stay ready.

I may not have been training to run an ultramarathon, but I train consistently.

I lift. I do intervals. I take recovery seriously. I try to eat well. I sauna. I cold plunge. I challenge my body daily.

I don't want to be fit just because there's a race on my calendar. I want to maintain a body that can say yes when something hard comes up.

Could I have run that 50K faster with actual run training? 100%.

But at this stage of my life, I'm way more interested in being capable than being specialized.

That was a pretty cool reminder.

Yep. Testicles.

Testosterone and male fertility are talked about EVERYWHERE right now, but I realized most guys probably know very little about the two organs responsible for producing their sperm and most of their testosterone.

I'm a father of four, I'm constantly measuring my own health markers, and this is something I genuinely wanted to understand better myself.

Why are testicles outside the body?

Why does temperature matter?

Does your underwear matter?

What happens with constant heat exposure?

What lifestyle choices actually matter?

And a few of the questions most guys probably have but aren't asking out loud.

I went pretty deep on it while still trying to make it something my kids could watch without me wanting to crawl under the couch.

If you're a guy who cares about testosterone, fertility or just understanding your own body better, I think you'll enjoy that one.

And I'm finally building something of my own.

This is probably the thing I'm most excited to share with you guys over the next few months.

After years of testing cold plunges, there's one thing about them that still annoys me.

Keeping the water clean is way too complicated.

You buy a cold plunge because you want to get cold.

Then suddenly you're a pool boy measuring water chemistry, ordering chemicals and trying to figure out why your $8,000 cold plunge smells like a neglected fish tank. 😂

I've always thought there had to be an easier way.

So I'm making one.

It's called NoFunk! (because no one wants “funk” in their cold plunge)

I'm not ready to show you everything yet, but the goal is simple:

Make keeping a cold plunge clean almost thoughtless.

I'm building this from scratch, in my kitchen, with my family, which is a whole new world for me, so I'll share some of that process here as we get closer.

One more thing I've been learning...

I've been going deep on infrared saunas again and realized how poorly we explain them.

Near infrared, mid infrared and far infrared are NOT just three names for the same thing.

And simply saying a sauna is "infrared" or even "full spectrum" doesn't necessarily tell you what you probably think it does.

I've owned and used these things for years and I'm still learning.

I'm published a video that breaks it down in normal human language because the deeper I've gone, the more I think people need to understand this BEFORE spending thousands of dollars on an infrared sauna. Here is that video if you didn’t see it.

Anyway, that's a pretty good snapshot of my week.

Bought a Cybertruck.

Ran 32 miles for no logical reason.

Made a video about testicles.

Started building something I wish already existed.

And learned some new stuff about saunas.

Pretty normal week around here. 😂

But if there's one thought I'd leave you with this Saturday, it's this:

Stay curious enough to change your mind and consistent enough to stay ready.

Both served me pretty well this week.

And I'm curious about you...

What's something you were completely convinced about a few years ago that you've since changed your mind on?

Seriously, hit reply and tell me. I love hearing this stuff.

Have a great weekend.

David
